New York, NY – The cry of the poor around the world is being heard by a majority of Americans, as two in three (66%) Americans agree (26% strongly/40% somewhat) that the United States has an obligation to help poor children in other nations around the world, according to a new Ipsos Public Affairs poll conducted on behalf of Child Fund International. Just one in three (33%) disagree (14% strongly/19% somewhat) that the United States doesn’t bear any responsibility to help poor children in developing nations.

Washington, DC – Over six in ten U.S. adults express concern that they themselves, someone in their household, or a close friend will get sick from the swine flu, according to a new telephone poll of over 1,000 adults conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs. More specifically, 63% said they are concerned – 26% “very” and 37% “somewhat” so. This marks an increase in concern since May when just over half (51%) were worried about contracting the H1N1 virus. Nearly one in five (19%) say that fuel efficiency would be the number one factor, while roughly one in ten say it would be safety features (9%) or space and seating capacity (8%). New York, NY — Dog owners today tend to stick to the basics, opting to treat their dogs with simple pleasures than they are to do so with gourmet food or expensive services, according to a new survey of dog owners nationwide aged 25 and older conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of ALPO. Of the various special things that owners do for their dog, the most common is feeding them treats (79%). Majorities also give their dog belly rubs (73%), take them for a walk (69%), and play fetch (50%). Many owners also give their dog special treatment by letting them sleep in bed with them (45%) and feeding them a meaty meal (33%).

New York, NY — Americans with Internet access are streaming more TV shows and movies than ever before. Recent data from Ipsos MediaCT’s MOTION study illustrates that in the past 30 days, 26% of online Americans have streamed a full-length TV show and 14% have streamed a full-length movie. This is more than two times the levels measured in September 2008. Not surprisingly, young adults 18 to 24 years of age have been the most ardent supporters of this medium. What is surprising is just how supportive they are – in the past 30 days, 30% have streamed a full-length movie and 51% have streamed a full-length TV show, which represent dramatic increases from last year.

New York, NY – Thinking about the credit card they use most often, among all respondents who were able to give their credit card a grade in terms of the rewards it offers and the process they must go through when redeeming the rewards accumulated, the overall GPA is a 2.47, the equivalent of a C+, according to a new study conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of US Airways, Barclaycard and MasterCard.

New York, NY – Americans’ perceptions of multiple-cat owners vary dramatically depending on whether or not they have cats at home, according to a new survey conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of Tidy Cats. While majorities of non-cat owners agree that “lonely” (69%) or “crazy cat lady” (58%) tend to describe multiple-cat owners, most of those who own two cats or more disagree (only 22% agree with each of these two epithets).

Washington, DC – Americans are less likely than are Canadians to describe their healthcare services as being affordable, according to a new Ipsos poll. Only half of U.S. adults (49%) agree that they currently have access to all of the healthcare services they need without it costing them more than they can afford. In contrast, two thirds of Canadian adults (65%) feel this way.

New York, NY – Over a third of Americans (36%) say that the best way to sell their car would be to do it privately, while nearly as many (30%) would opt to trade it in at a dealership, according to a new survey of over 1,000 U.S. adults conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of CarMax. The RBC CASH Index for July 2009 stands at 22.4, an 11.9 point decline from June's 34.3 reading.

New York, NY — Physicians and nurses in the United States are as likely as members of the general public to use dietary supplements and most of them recommend supplements to their patients, according to a study published in Nutrition Journal, a peer-reviewed, online journal that focuses on the field of human nutrition. The findings reported in a July 2009 Nutrition Journal article are based on data from the “Life…supplemented” Healthcare Professionals (HCP) Impact Study conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs in October 2007 among 900 physicians and 277 nurses.

New York, NY – A recent study gauging U.S. and UK consumer awareness and attitudes towards Smart Grid Technology found that while most were previously unfamiliar with Smart Grid technology (74% in the U.S. and 90% in the UK), once exposed to a description of Smart Grid Technology, respondents in both countries were receptive to the idea of Smart Grid. Washington, DC – President Barack Obama’s approval ratings remain high with 64% of Americans saying that they approve of the job he is doing as President (down only one point over the past month and five points since early February). Fully 40% say that they strongly approve of his performance. In contrast, one third (32%) say that they disapprove of how Obama is handling things.
- The President approval ratings range from 89% among Democrats, 58% among Independents and 27% among Republicans. Compared with the past few weeks after President Obama’s inauguration, his approval ratings are down by 3 points among Democrats, but they have dropped 12 points among Independents and 7 points among Republicans.
- Those who tend to most approve of how Obama is doing his job include Hispanics (81%), African-Americans (81%) and women in general (70%). Among both non-Hispanic whites and among men in general, 58% approve of his performance.
